ADB signed an agreement to invest $35 million in equity into Multiples Private Equity Fund III (MPEF III) to help private sector companies access the capital to expand operations, create sustainable jobs, and generate tax revenues.
As a catalyst for private investments, ADB provides direct financial assistance to private sector projects. While ADB’s participation is usually limited, it leverages a large amount of funds from commercial sources to finance these projects. Projects must also have clear development impacts and/or demonstration effects that go beyond the benefits captured in the financial rate of return.?
Making a Difference
Private investment is key to Asia’s prosperity. ADB works with private sector clients to empower communities in many ways—like building the infrastructure they need, boosting farmer incomes, and delivering clean energy supplies.
Rantau Dedap geothermal power project in South Sumatra, Indonesia is expected to generate more than 90 MW of electricity, which will power up to 130,000 homes and avoid over 400,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year by 2021.
The world-class facility hosts 26 airlines that fly to both international and domestic destinations. The new terminal aims to serve 11.2 million passengers by end of 2018.
